When going through 2016-17 AP Studio, one of the pieces that that spoke to me the most was the graphite drawing done by Carter Yanagawa. I enjoyed this piece because of how gorgeous it is, yet how uncomfortable it is to look at. The contrast between the lips and the eye are what I think make it so uncomfortable. Lips are usually shown in a beautiful way and, yet again, this piece portrays them as just that, beautiful. However, the eye, which is also usually shown as a feature of beauty as well, is show as pulled down and stretched and rolled back. This both enhances and distracts from the beauty of the piece, which is really unique and exciting.

I have always been a big fan of photography. It is definitely my favorite art to make and to observe. Recently I have gotten very intrigued by surreal photography. It has such an interesting sense of realness to it because you are actually photographing real places/objects. However, they are edited in a way that looks kind of dreamy and the objects are usually unproportioned or in ways that they could not be. So, it is pretty cool because at first glance it might look like a real image, but once you actually look at it you realize that it is edited.

I think thats really interesting. Photography is my favorite as well. It's pretty amazing how a photo can be edited to look surreal.

Surrealistic photography is my favorite, I find it really interesting as well. However, I can't imagine having to combine up to 100 pictures.

I think surreal photography is underrated and more people should take notice of it. I think it's mesmerizing when people can take something real and form it into a alternate reality. Do you want to utilize that medium of photography for your project during second semester?

I definitely agree. Granted, yes, CGI and all that other technology makes it look cool, but actually creating it instead of lazily recreating it out of a digital image it not even close to being the same. It is so extremely obvious that CGI and green screens are used. Look at The Great Gatsby with Leonardo DiCaprio. The entire movie is practically CGI and green screens. It would be really cool if the actual building existed but no, it's all fake. Movies where things were completely real and not so animated are amazing.

I agree with you, Brady. Why, with such amazing technology at our hands, are we so rarely using it to create a true cinematic masterpiece? While technology is continuously advancing, it's as though we use it as an excuse not to need to go above and beyond in the film industry. CGI should be used to push film producers even further, yet it is used as a crutch for making a mediocre movie.

I love your intense view, strong language and the specific path you took on this. Instead of doing the broad subject of filming you chose to highlight the "horrendous" aspect, but you also exampled the bad with the good.

I agree Brady. There are so many let down movies nowadays which is pretty sad. However, for me personally I tend to notice bad acting before I notice poor effects or use of mediums. I absolutely hate when a potentially good movie is ruined by poor cheesy acting.

I've always been interested in tattoos. When I was twelve, I knew I wanted to be a tattoo artist. Using needles and different colors of ink being injected into your skin creating a beautiful masterpiece. You can have anything put on your skin. From butterflies and flowers to skulls and dragons, if the artist can draw it, he can tattoo it. It takes a lot of skill to be able to tattoo due to the vibration of the machine. Every artist also has their own style of tattooing. Some could be good at doing realistic drawings, abstract drawings, coloring techniques that make it look like watercolor, and some could even be good at doing scary horror tattoos. Being a tattoo artist requires having a license or a certification and you also have to have an apprenticeship and/or a background check. You must be capable of meeting the health standards and be capable of actually drawing the design. Like most jobs, you have to be eighteen or older to be a tattoo artist and in 2015, the median salary was $58,450. As a tattoo artist it is a requirement and responsibility of you to keep your environment safe and clean for your clients. You also have to be sure to either disinfect or discard the needles that you use due to diseases such as hepatitis or HIV. Being a tattoo artist doesn't require you to have special degrees in any artistic fields but it is a good thing to have to improve your skills and it's good to experiment with different kinds of inks. I'm super excited to achieve my goal and get my dream job because I know how happy people can get when they finally see that something so beautiful is now able to be worn on their skin everyday for the rest of their life.

I think it's so cool that you're going after your dream job. It kind of inspires me to go after mine (my blog is about my dream job too) but I plan on getting a few tattoos so I'll be sure to come to you to get one done when you're ready (: !

I don't think I could ever do this job because I would be way to nervous to mess up so props to you! I'm curious as to if you would open up your own shop or if you plan on working for someone. Either way it would be an awesome job and I'm sure a lot of stories would come along with it.

Picasso known to be one of the most famous artists of the twentieth century. He created his art in Paris, the heart of the artistic world. He used his wild lifestyle as inspiration to a rather different approach to his artwork. Picasso’s work consisted of mainly painting and sculpture. He practically invented his own style of art that is unique and his own. He saw things in a completely different way than any other artists did. His drawings and sculptures portrayed objects and people in the art form we know as cubism. The objects or people in his art were often disorientated which depicted a distinct mood, feeling, emotion in the work of art.

I have always been so envious of people who can do cubism and work really well with paints. Cubism is so challenging for me because I find it really hard to discover value out of flat shapes. It's really inspiring and impressive to see people who can make really complex art works with such simple shapes.

I've always been a big fan of films. I love the narrative aspect and that the point is almost jumping out at you, however, when it's not I love having to think about the meaning of the piece. Films are essentially still images that, when shown, creates the illusion of animation.

I agree with you that it is a huge part of our culture today which I think is kind of cool because years from now we will still have record of something that was made today. I love films too but I think if I had to pick one way that the theme was presented I would pick the hidden theme that you have to think about and find yourself because then it is more interactive for the viewers.

I completely agree with you, I love thinking about the meaning of films. It is really bizarre to me how much symbolism is often put into movies, yet really cool, as someone had to think of all of that.

I've seen Face Off a few times and I loved it! I think it's amazing that you want to go into that field. The ability to create a new character off of someone is pretty spectacular and you should try to see if you can practice that talent in films. I hate CGI edits on people's faces when people like you can perfectly create that character with your own hands.

When I first started out doing art, I was really excited. I wanted to keep on doing it, I really wanted to get better. Now, however, I have hit a plateau. It isn't that I mind creating as much as it is that I don't get the same joy from it. Normally, I can sit down and get what I want easily, even though it often takes a lot of time. I used to think I wanted to be an artist, but I have realized that it is definitely not the path for me. Becoming a freelance artist requires you to have a few things- passion and motivation. I am lacking in both areas, and AP has allowed me to discover this.
