Analyzing Art Through the Conceptual FramesHello APers Welcome to your first blog with Banzhoff. :) I am excited to be working with all of you! Ok. So here is your blog due on March 24th with two additional comments. Lately I have been hearing a lot of buzz about art education in Australia and how they have students analyze art through the frames. They start this process of looking at art with elementary students. I want you to try it! Here are the Frames: (choose one.) Here is an example: (Note this gives an example of how to analyze an artwork through all four conceptual frames. I am only having you choose ONE.
Click here for example 1.For this pick an artwork form the Art Institute of Chicago's database http://www.artic.edu/aic/collections/ and analyze the work using one of the 4 frames. 2. What do you think of this way of looking at art? Was it helpful? Did it influence how you see art in some way?

This way of looking at art makes me realize that a lot of art was produced just to gain wealth rather than artistic expression. Very good write up overall.

I find it really interesting about how we used the same frame to do ours, but they turned out completely different due to the subject matter and time frame of which our pieces were made. This method of analyzing art is really cool.

Emma- I agree that looking at the techniques and forms of the pieces deeper makes me want to try their techniques too.

Natalie- I really like how you branched out from classic western art when doing this. I wouldn't have thought to do African art. I also really like how you looked deep into the symbolism of it.

Kait- I have seen El Greco and talked about the meaning of it in my spanish class but I didn't really know anything about the time period and what was happened at the time that it was painted so it was interesting to read about that in your blog.

Kait, I think it is cool how you could use your background knowledge to have a better understanding of the piece. I think that is the way we all look at artwork. If there isn't a clear meaning we tend to look at past experiences to draw conclusions to the purpose behind the piece.

Brady, I like how you analyzed the photo in a cultural frame. Looking at the art from this point of view gives a different perspective to help the viewer see what the picture really entails.

Emma - I am always a big fan of positive and negative space, so this piece was very interesting to me. I also had not thought about how learning more about their techniques makes you want to try them, that's a good point.

Kate - I have always wondered that if there is any point where an artist work becomes meaningless to them and their only intentions are to get money. I feel like it would be hard to make things for yourself that had a lot of meaning to you when that is your job that you do everyday.

Jayce- I think it's really interesting how you thought about the artist felling and thoughts about his own piece instead of how it makes you feel.

Brady- I think it's really interesting how the artist disconnected from the personal aspect of the photo, it's very matter of fact which you don't normally see in pieces making a statement on segregation.
