Time for reminiscing.
When I was in high school I had absolutely no clue as to what I wanted to major in. I fluttered around from topic to topic hoping that I would figure it out before I turned 25. I remember my parents sitting down with me and discussing career options. My dad (a laced up conservative State Farm employee) pushed for a career that would provide financial stability and room for growth. My mom (a P.E. and health teacher/hilarious “free spirit”) encouraged me to find a career path that I would truly enjoy for the rest of my days. I was clueless. While at college I started off as a graphic design major and later turned to photography and received my Bachelors of Fine Arts degree with a minor in Art History. Do you know what you can do with a BFA? I was lost for a time after graduation but on my mother suggestion I signed up to substitute teach. I needed a paycheck. It was not until I started subbing that I realized that I loved being in a classroom. I get excited to see students succeed and flourish. I am happy with my career path even though it took me a long time to realize what I should do. Now that I’m in my thirties (no comments) and I would say there are only a few other options that I would have embraced for my career path. I could see myself becoming a labor and delivery nurse because I love babies and pregnancy even though it is all disgusting. I also love photography sessions with families and children. But do I have the guts to open my own studio business. Nope. Not happening. My parents still believe I have a wonderful knack for creating personalized cards/brochures/pamphlets and think I should design them for funeral homes. Doesn’t that just sound thrilling? So here is my point. There are so many options out there we can’t cover them all in a year. But I want you to explore the field of art. Blog requirements:

I am in a graphic drawing(graphic design) class right now. I think it is so cool and I am also always intrigued by logos. It is very cool how they can get such a deep meaning across in such a simple design.

There is a lot you can do with a fine arts career, and make decent money, such as being an animator- somebody who creates animations for things such as movies and video games. They also have a median salary of $79,000. Art directors are people who develop design concepts and review material that appear in media, they also make about $84,000 a year. Art historians do things such as study the works of artists, and some help preserve art, they make about $45,020 per year. A macro photographer is somebody who takes close up photographs, and makes an average of $35,980 a year. A medical illustrator is someone who creates anatomically correct drawings for things such as textbooks, and makes an average of $61,000 a year.

I personally would never choose to be an art historian but I think that it's awesome that you find interest in being one.

An art historian sounds very interesting. What place of employment would you want to work for? (The Smithsonian, Museum of Art in Chicago, etc)

I have never heard of a medical illustrator before, I don't think I would like that very much though. It's too focused and I don't like being realistic when I make art.

Before I ever took an art class, I told myself I was never going to try it. My dad being an artist, persuaded me to try it out and I have loved it ever since. You may be surprised with the major you end up choosing.

All of these careers sound interesting, but if you had to choose which one what would it be?

I thought all of your careers were really interesting. I do not know much if anything about how to make tattoos but I think that it would be a really cool career with a lot of interesting stories.

There's nothing wrong with graphic design, and no matter what you decide to go into, you'll probably do great.

I knew before I read what you could see yourself being that photojournalist was your number one choice just based off of your photography style. I'm impressed by how set you are on this major because I still am not certain about mine.

I can definitely see this being your career in the future. In class, I can tell that you want to do photography for almost every project. You're very good at it. I never took photography so in a way it helps me appreciate the skill set more than what I would if I knew how to take pictures that had good quality.

I think photojournalism would be such a great choice for you! You have such talent with photography. Being able to say so much with a picture is very powerful. Something I think you will definitely excel in. It's amazing how you know what you already want to do with your career, considering I barely know what I want.

Special effects makeup is so intriguing and fun to create. The process of creating all the things you'll need for a certain look is time consuming but fun. I did a bloody gory zipper face for halloween last year. I even got white contacts for it. It turned out great.

I believe majoring in Marketing and photography is such a smart idea! You have greater chance in succeeding going with the knowledge of how to run your own business. Definitely a good choice.

I could totally see you being a tattoo artist. However, that would freak me out because you could totally mess up and not be able to undo it.
