What to do? What to do?

Time for reminiscing.

When I was in high school I had absolutely no clue as to what I wanted to major in.  I fluttered around from topic to topic hoping that I would figure it out before I turned 25.  I remember my parents sitting down with me and discussing career options. My dad (a laced up conservative State Farm employee) pushed for a career that would provide financial stability and room for growth.  My mom (a P.E. and health teacher/hilarious “free spirit”) encouraged me to find a career path that I would truly enjoy for the rest of my days.

I was clueless.

While at college I started off as a graphic design major and later turned to photography and received my Bachelors of Fine Arts degree with a minor in Art History.  Do you know what you can do with a BFA?  Very little.  It was not until I started subbing that I realized that I loved being in a classroom.  I get excited to see students succeed and flourish.  I am happy with my career path even though it took me a long time to realize what I should do.  Now that I’m in my thirties (no comments) I would say there are only a few other options that I would have embraced for my career path.  I could see myself becoming a labor and delivery nurse because I love babies and pregnancy even though it is all disgusting.  I also love photography sessions with families and children.  But do I have the guts to open my own studio business.  Nope.

So here is my point.  There are so many options out there we can’t cover them all in a year.  But I want you to explore the field of art.  Blog requirements:
  1. Write down 5 different fine arts careers
  2. Describe each profession and give a rough estimate of the salary provided
  3. Which of those careers could you maybe see yourself doing?
  4. If you had to choose today, what would your major be and why?

Cool site with lots of art career options:
